Course Description

Workshop Title:  ECSU NC Catalyst – “NETS for Teachers 2  – Are You Prepared?”

 Consultants/Instructors:  Claudia C. Twiford, ECSU School of Education and Psychology Director of Instructional Technology, Susan J. Peck, ECSU Academic Computing Instructional Technology Specialist, Kim N. Stevenson, ECSU Virtual College Coordinator, Damond Nollan, ECSU Webmaster, Loretta Powers, ECSU Virtual College Instructional Consultant, Jeff Whitt, Manteo Elementary 5th Grade Teacher, Cynthia Stallings, Perquimans Central Technology Coordinator and Terry Mitchell, ECSU School of Education and Psychology Diagnostic Testing Coordinator

 Date:  Saturday and Sunday, May 31st and June 1st, 2003 from 9 am until 4:30 pm

 Location:  Informational Technology Center at Elizabeth City State University

 No. of Hours Credit:  15 (1.5 ceu’s)   Stipend: $150

 Workshop Objectives:  

¨       Becoming aware of the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS)

¨       Exploring strategies for integrating the technology standards with the curriculum

¨       Creating a PowerPoint presentation around the National Educational Technology Standards to present to faculty at respective schools

¨       Building a network of community educators and students by creating a NC Classes On-line Web Page

 Format for Reaching Objectives:

¨       Utilizing Blackboard Management Systems before, during and after the workshop, participants will access information, introduce themselves to the group and post discussion information concerning ideas for integration

¨       Participants will actively engage for 2 days in hands-on activities focusing on the 6 NETS standards

¨       The PowerPoint presentation created during this workshop will become a useful tool for participants as they share the NETS standards with their faculty at their respective schools

¨       The NC Classes On-Line Web Page will facilitate communication between teacher, students, and parents

Methods of Evaluating the Workshop:

¨       Participants will complete a Pre-NETS Technology Survey and a Post-NETS Technology Survey for assessing awareness

¨       Participants will sign an attendance sheet at each session

¨       Participants will complete a workshop evaluation

¨       Participants will demonstrate competency in creating the NETS PowerPoint presentation and the NC Classes On-Line Web Page

¨       After presenting the presentation to their respective faculty, participants will post in Blackboard the number of teachers impacted by their presentation and the number of students that will possibly be impacted by their presentation.  They will also post ideas of how technology is being integrated at their respective schools.
