Northeastern North Carolina Transition To Teaching Project

(NNCTTTP)

Elizabeth City State University, in partnership with 12 LEAs, is currently implementing an innovative project which enables these high-need systems and high-need schools to recruit, prepare, and retain highly qualified teachers; thereby, alleviating the severe teacher shortages and enhancing student learning.

 

The Transition To Teaching Project includes the following cohorts:

Cohort I:

Paraprofessionls with bachelors’ degrees seeking full licensure. These participants must satisfy PRAXIS II only.

*Cohort II:

Paraprofessionals with at least two years of college, (60 transferrable credit hours and who have passed PRAXIS I), seeking a bachelor’s degree in education.

*Cohort III:

Lateral Entry Teachers or Mid-Career Professionals with a bachelor’s degree needing to complete course work and/or PRAXIS II.

(Licensure Only-Participants seeking full licensure through Elizabeth City State University or

Alternative Licensure- Participants seeking licensure requirements through one of North Carolina’s Alternative Licensing Centers)

Cohort III’s Lateral Entry Teachers must have graduated within three years before applying to an eligible LEA to teach.

*Mid Career Professionals may meet the requirements for Cohort II or III- Individuals with experience in another field, who have decided to pursue teaching as a career. These persons are not required to be employed in one of the twelve participating school systems. They must contact the NNCTTTP Offfice.

Pays up to $1500 per year for tuition & book fees

Pays University Application Fee

Offers free PRAXIS I& PRAXIS II workshops

Offers individualized advisement

Uses multiple vehicles for course offerings (Distance Learning, Telecommunications, LEA sites, Weekend/Evening)
