Eligibility
This master degree program builds upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities
that teachers bring with them for further study and learning.
These teachers who meet minimum state licensure
standards (North Carolina "A" license) or its equivalent.
The program emphasizes the importance of teachers in exploring
and analyzing new content and skills introduced in coursework. The teacher
will use the classroom during coursework to continuously construct meaning
needed for facilitating effective decision-making. In this program, courses
will require classroom, school, and community investigation and application
through ongoing, focused data collection and analysis in a variety of
ways geared toward improving P-12 student performance.
The capstone project,
either a Master's Research Project or a Comprehensive Portfolio, will
require extensive classroom application of research methodology and use
of collaborative leadership skills.
To be eligible for program admission, candidates must meet the following
criteria:
Criteria for Admission to the Program
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
•NC "A" license in Elementary Education or the equivalent from another
state
•Currently Teaching in an elementary classroom or related assignment
•Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0(4.0 scale)
•Appropriate score on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or MAT (Miller's Analogies Test)
•Interview
•Written two page essay stating your educational philosophy
•Recommendations from three professional educators who can document
your work performance
