The Viking Fellows Programs

The School of Education and Psychology at ECSU is seeking the “best and the brightest” to become Viking Fellows.

Elizabeth City State University, founded in 1891, is a fully accredited university located in the historic Albemarle area near the world-renowned Outer Banks beaches and the Hampton Roads area of southeastern Virginia.  Elizabeth City State University offers students the opportunity to receive an excellent and personalized education while enjoying a wide variety of recreational and cultural activities.

ECSU offers 38 baccalaureate degree programs in the basic arts and sciences and master’s degree programs in elementary education, school administration, biology, and mathematics. Our heritage provides a rich background for serving its increasingly multi-cultural student body.  The university provides a challenging and supportive environment that prepares its students for knowledgeable, responsible participation and leadership in an ever-changing, technologically advanced society.

The ECSU School of Education and Psychology offers a comprehensive and challenging program including Honors Courses that will prepare its candidates to become highly qualified teachers.  We offer majors in Birth through Kindergarten, Elementary Education, Middle Grades, Special Education, Physical Education, Art Education, and Music Education. We also offer academic concentrations in Biology, English, Mathematics, and the Social Sciences for Secondary Majors.

The Viking Fellows Program provides a $6,500 per year scholarship for four years to outstanding North Carolina high school seniors. Recipients must be legal residents of North Carolina and citizens of the United States. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, students agree to teach for four years following graduation from college in one of North Carolina’s public, charter, or government schools. If the recipient cannot repay the scholarship through service, the loan is repaid to the State with 10 percent interest.  Some campuses provide additional scholarship funds to Teaching Fellows.  At ECSU Viking Fellows is truly a full scholarship.

Viking Fellows are housed in Viking Village.

ECSU’s Viking Fellows attend special cultural and sporting events in addition to the University's Lyceum Program.
