4. Interviews by Major Department and Education Faculty.

A. Majors in Elementary and Special Education will be interviewed by faculty in the Division of Education.

B. Students pursuing Middle Grades Education or minor in Secondary Education will be interviewed by education and major department faculty.

The student will be informed in writing of his/her status regarding admission to teacher education.  
Students may not take courses in the Professional Education sequence (except Foundations of Education-EDUC 201) without being formally admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

1ST SEMESTER - JUNIOR YEAR 
(Completion of 60 hours towards graduation.)

_____________ Apply for Student Teaching according to the following example. Application should be completed one semester prior to the Student Teaching semester. 

Example: If a student plans to student teach during the fall of the senior year, he/she must apply in the spring of the junior year. If a student plans to student teach during the spring of the senior year, he/she must apply in the fall of the senior year. A GPA of 2.50 is required. 

Students must take and pass the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) test prior to doing student teaching.

2ND SEMESTER - JUNIOR YEAR (Completion of 75 hours toward graduation.)

1ST SEMESTER - SENIOR YEAR 
(Completion of 90 hours toward graduation)

_____________ Enroll in and pass EDUC 400 - Senior Seminar
_____________ In order to pass EDUC 400, a student must register for, take and pass

Praxis II - Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT). Registration Bulletins will be distributed from the Office of Teacher Education. Students must sign for receipt of Registration Bulletins.

_____________ Praxis-PLT Preparation Review Seminar

This is a seminar available to students (no credit) who wish to engage in a review just prior to taking the Principles of Learning and Teaching Exam.

_____________ Report to Career Services to complete your Placement Office Profile during the first four (4) weeks of the semester.
_____________ Apply for graduation and pay graduation fees one semester prior to the date of graduation. Example: If you plan to graduate in the spring, apply in the fall; if you plan to graduate in the fall, you must apply by May 31 of the calendar year.
_____________ Attend Prospective Teachers Meeting
_____________ Meet with Advisor 3 times during the semester
_____________ Schedule a meeting with your Department Chairperson at least two days before the "ADD PERIOD" ends so that you may be cleared for graduation.
_____________ Secure the Graduation/University Exit Clearance form to obtain necessary signatures.
FINAL SEMESTER - SENIOR YEAR 
(Completion of 120 hours toward graduation.)
 

Dates

_____________ Register for remaining major and professional courses, including student teaching. A grade of "C" or better is required in professional courses.
_____________ Students must register for and take Praxis II - Subject Assessments/Specialty Area Tests during this semester. Registration Bulletins will be distributed from the Office of Teacher Education. Students must sign for receipt of Registration Bulletins.
_____________ Apply for teacher licensure in the Office of Teacher Education (Griffin Hall). Applications for licensure will be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction after successful completion of all coursework, receipt of satisfactory scores on the Praxis Series II - Subject Assessments/ Specialty Area Tests, and any other state requirements.

*All Prospective Teachers are required to attend Prospective Teachers Meetings/Seminar which will be scheduled each semester for no credit.
