PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING AND TEACHING (PLT)

  1. EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1998
    1. At the September 4, 1997, State Board of Education Meeting, the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) tests were approved to replace the Professional Knowledge (PK) test for licensure, effective July 1, 1998.
    2. The PLT is administered in three versions: PLT-K-6 (Elementary); PLT - 5-9 (Middle Grades); and PLT - 7-12 (Secondary).
    3. The Teacher Education Advisory Council voted to let students in the Special Subject Areas--Art, Health & Physical Education, Music, and Special Education--select which one of the three versions they will take.
    4. Each version includes forty-five multiple-choice questions and six constructed-response questions.
    5. Minimum passing scores were set at the March 1998 State Board of Education Meeting. The minimum Passing Score for all three versions is 160.
