"A
Rich Heritage ~ A Bright
Future"
One of the
first to be accredited by NCATE on July 1, 1954!

Through funding from the Golden
Leaf Foundation, Elizabeth City State University School of Education and
Psychology has partnered with the NC Department of Environment and Natural
Resources – The Dismal Swamp State Nature Park and the NC Department of Public
Instruction in providing a professional development science and math workshop
entitled “Becoming A Modern Day Indiana Jones - A GPS Nature Quest” this summer
for selected teachers in grades 3-5. The focus is on instructing teachers on
the use and integration of the Global Positioning Handheld Systems with the
science curriculum plants and animals. The Golden Leaf Foundation has provided
a GPS Science Kit worth approximately $900 for each school that participated.
Each school was allowed to select one teacher who will return to their school in
the fall and train their 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers on the use of the GPS
integrating the science and math curriculum.
